What I find really difficult right now is building a body of work that is cohesive and relatable. I always am impressed by artists that can show up with paintings that reflect their style, and I don't think that I am there yet even after a lifetime of thinking art and dabbling in artistic ventures, with the last 20 years really focusing on me and my art persona.
For example, grabbed this painting the other day, quite a large canvas like 24x36" abstracted trees, foliage with a black bird just hangin'. I liked the painting but wanted thicker paint and to make better color choices for the bird. After working it a while I totally covered it up with gesso and pigment. Now one would think I would come back, do the painting again in my style.
No bird, no cool foliage, FLOWERS! I think that I've got a "thing" in my head that says thick paint, good color...aha Flowers. It's like driving the same route everyday and the road finally being so comfortable, one forgets how she got here.
